Course Summary
This course set will teach participants the skills and knowledge needed to complete a hazard analysis, specify risk controls to bring risks to ALARP, identify relevant personnel, complete appropriate hazard analysis forms (paper or electronic), monitor and review effectiveness of risk controls. Additionally, it is for those who are required to issue work permits to people who conduct activities where hazards exist, or specific procedures need to be followed and monitored to protect the safety of personnel and the integrity of plant or process.
Whether working as an individual alone or as part of a team/workgroup and working in liaison with other team members, a hazard analysis may be required under a safety case by organisation procedures or simply as being good practice. This might be done as an independent activity to identify hazards and the appropriate hazard controls, or it might be done as part of a broader process, such as identifying and applying for the permits required for a job.
Additionally, as an individual, a member of a team and/or the control room operator, this course set will teach participants the skills and knowledge to ensure an understanding of the permit system and the limitations of each permit, and in making decisions regarding the need for and correct use of each permit.
Participants will also learn the significance of the analysis context, how the identified hazards may cause harm and the purpose and use of the risk matrix. The skills in this course set are applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

- Complete the pre-requisite unit MSMWHS201 Conduct hazard analysis before completing the MSMPER300 Issue work permits unit
- Physical capacity to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration skills including wearing and working in all relevant personal protective equipment
- Physical capacity to able to speak clearly and unambiguously in the language of the worksite, undertake and interpret hazard analysis, conduct and interpret tests/inspections, ensure correct preparation of worksite is undertaken in relation to issuing work permits
Course Duration:

Face to Face: 420 minutes (minimum) delivery, full face to face course
Refresher 420 minutes (minimum).

- Prepare for a hazard analysis
- Identify hazard
- Assess risks
- Control risks
- Review controls
- Identify and raise the type of work permit required
- Issue the permit and prepare for work
- Receive end of day report and close the work permit
